Title: Kenny and the Dragon
Author: Tony DiTerilizzi
Rating (Out of 5): 3
A connection to the book: There were lots of references to other books in this book.  The main characters are avid readers just like I am and I could understand how sometimes they felt misunderstood by the others around them.
Genre: Fantasy
Recommended?: yes
Why or why not?  I thought the story was clever and I enjoyed the banter of the characters in this book.  I expected to not like it, but found out that I did like it.

Title: Storm Chaser
Author: Chris Platt
Rating (Out of 5): 2
A connection to the book: This book reminded me of other books with girls and horses.  The character Ariel reminded me of spoiled rich girls you see in lots of books and movies.
Genre: realistic fiction
Recommended?: Yes and no
Why or why not? If you like stories with horses then yes, you will like this book.  But I can't say it is one of my favorites.

Title: The Blind Side
Author: Michael Lewis
Rating (Out of 5): 5
A connection to the book: That when you help someone they always include you in what they have to say and that is just like the Blind Sides Michael Oher with the Touyse family did with Michael it made me rememberber what I did for others that help them move on to become something good.
Genre: Nonfiction
Recommended?: yes
Why or why not?  Because it is a true story about a sport that I like and I say it is a great book.

Title: The Evolution of Capnurnia Tate
Author: Jacqueline Kelly
Rating (Out of 5): 5
A connection to the book: Calpurnia is a young girl with a lot of brothers.  She isn't the prissy sort of girl even though the time she lives in (1900's) girls are expected to act and behave a certain way.  She becomes a stronger, more independent young lady.  My connection is that I believe very strongly in following your heart and being who you really are inside.
Genre: Historical Fiction
Recommended?: YES!!!
Why or why not? I love the story in this book.  I love the relationship she builds with her grandfather and the things she discovers along the way.  This is one of my favorite books in the Golden Sower nominees!!

Title: Deep Trouble
Author: R. L. Stine
Rating (Out of 5): 3
A connection to the book: My connection is when I went to the beach and saw a fisherman having trouble with his fishing pole, and when he raised up his fishing rod, I saw a gray fin rising up from the water, heading towards the shore. I noticed the fisherman use a fishing tool to catch the fish and I saw that it was a hammerhead shark. It ties into the story because in the book, a hammerhead shark attacks a kid, therefor I know based on what I saw at the beach and from the book, sharks are dangerous and ferocious.
Genre: Scary Fiction
Recommended?: yes
Why or why not?  Even though this book was not as good as I thought it would be, I think the next one (Deep Trouble 2) will be much better because it has minnows (a type of fish that is a carnivore). I was disappointed with this book because it did not have a lot of action even though there were sharks and mermaids in the book. When I think of sharks, I think of lots of action and excitement, but this book did contain a lot. However, I recommend this book because I believe the second and third one will be a lot better and have more action.
