Title: Killer Pizza
Author: Greg Taylor
Rating (Out of 5): 5
A connection to the book: The connection I made was with a movie called "SWAMP SHARK". The characters in the book and movie tried to stop a monster that was harming the citizens.
Genre: Scary Fiction
Recommended?: yes
Why or why not?  I had my eyes glued to this book because three people were going to defeat a vicious monster called Guttata. I think the second book "Killer Pizza: The Slice" will be better because they will have to defeat a new monster.

Title: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Author: J. K. Rowling
Rating (Out of 5): 5
A connection to the book: Harry is chosen as a school champion for the Tri-Wizard Tournament and is able to pass the tasks successfully. However, Harry does not have any family to share his great achievements with. I had a personal connection to Harry in regards to this because when I was younger and would achieve great things, my family was always too busy working to share these successes with me. Harry felt extremely sad because his parents were not able to celebrate his success and I felt the same way when my parents were not able to celebrate with me.

Genre: Fantasy
Recommended?:  yes
Why or why not?  I would recommend the Harry Potter series because the story line is very unique and the book has a lot of twists and turns. Although the book is very dark and does not necessarily have the traditional happy ending, it kept me on the edge of my seat as I wanted to read more and more.

Title:   Gregor The Overlander
Author: Suzanne Collins
Rating (Out of 5): 5
A connection to the book: In this book, Gregor is an 11 year old boy who falls into another world below his apartment building.  There are so many things that are unfamiliar to him.  There are giant spiders, bats, cockroaches, and rats.  It takes him a long time before he feels comfortable there.  I feel like I can kind of understand how Gregor is feeling because when I went to Hawaii there were lots of new things that I wasn't used. There were gecko lizards that would crawl all over and make really loud noises at night.  This helps me to really understand how Gregor must have felt.
Genre: Fantasy
Recommended?: Yes
Why or why not?  If you like books that are full of adventure and surprises, you will love this this book!  Once I started it, I couldn't put it down. It seems like Gregor has to overcome a new challenge in every chapter.   I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

Rating (Out of 5):
A connection to the book: I can't think of a connection, but I can think of a way that the book is better than the movie. Reason 1: you have your own way of seeing the book as a movie. Reason 2: You can see the author's script, not the director's script.

Gentle Reminder...

You can only get credit for books you read this summer.  If you fill out surveys on more than one book during the day then please have your parents email me to tell me that you read these books during THIS summer.  Not during the school year.

Also if you don't see your post come up right away be patient.  I have to approve them before they are posted and I am not at my computer every minute of the day.  :)  If you do a second posting of the same book I will not repost it and you will not get credit for it in the count.
If you have questions please email at dspurck@paplv.org

Title: Shooting the Moon
Author: Frances O'roark Dowell
Rating (Out of 5): 4
A connection to the book: Jamie Dexter thought war would be exiting then when her brother T.J sent her rolls of undeveloped pictures she realized that it is not at all what she thought it was. I can relate to this because I thought a video game would be awesome and then when I bought it it was so bad that I have been trying to sell it for 7 months.
Genre: Realistic Fiction
Recommended?: Yes
Why or why not?   First, I would recommend this to any military family. Second, to anyone who wants to read all Golden Sowers for Carriage Hill. it is a good book about a girl named Jamie Dexter, whose brother is deployed to Vietnam during the war. And she figures out war isn't what she think it is from T.J's pictures. (her brother)

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today I took a count to see who had read the most books this summer and so far we have a 3 way tie!!!  That is the good news.  The bad news is no one has posted in quite a long time!!!  Remember we have a prize for the person who read the most and then 10 other prizes.  I promise you will not be disappointed with the prizes.  Every time you read a book this summer fill out a survey and I will post it.  Each time you post your name gets put in the drawing and you have an opportunity to win one of the prizes!!!  After you have posted 5 times you get an extra chance to win!!!  Remember this is for your summer reading and not something you read a long time ago.
